Developing IT Enabled Mechanism for SWOC Analysis: A Case Study

Title: Developing IT Enabled Mechanism for SWOC Analysis: A Case Study
Authors: Shahabadkar, Pramod; Joshi, Ajinkya; Nandurkar, Keshav N.
Abstract: There is a huge competition in the education sector. Only those institutes that can adopt innovative
teaching – learning methods and provide quality education will be able to survive this competition.
In order to survive and merge ahead, institutes need to carry out detailed analysis of their
strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges. This case study presents a mechanism for
carrying out the SWOC (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges) analysis of an
educational institute. This paper focuses on the use of IT tolls for SWOC analysis. Similar
mechanism or methodology can be adopted in other institutes for carrying out the SWOC Analysis.
This initiative will not only help the institute to focus and capitalize on the strengths, address
weaknesses and deter challenges but also help in attracting students of higher merit and
improving the quality of education.

Evaluating the effect of organisational practices on work effectiveness of employees

Title: Evaluating the effect of organisational practices on work effectiveness of employees
Authors: Joshi, Ajinkya . S.; Deshpande, Vinayak .S.; Pawar, Padmakar. J.
Abstract: This is a case study to identify most significant organisational
practices determining the work effectiveness of the employees of a government
undertaking, Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority
(MHADA) India. Four key elements influencing the work effectiveness were
mapped with the organisational practices employed by MHADA. The average
value of employee responses was used to prepare a matrix. Data were collected
from 148 officers and clerical staff of seven regional boards of MHADA
selected on a random basis. The data were analysed using two multiple criteria
decision-making (MCDM) techniques namely PROMETHEE and TOPSIS.
Results obtained by PROMETHEE appear to be more logical. Results indicate
e-tender system as the most significant practice influencing the work
effectiveness closely followed by process standardisation. The outcome of this
study will be helpful for the organisation to develop an appropriate strategy for
employees of every board.

A Novel Approach for Improving Quality of Learning Environment in Technical Institutions

Title: A Novel Approach for Improving Quality of Learning Environment in Technical Institutions
Abstract: The premier regulatory bodies for technical
education in India have mandated several services and
facilities for the students of technical institutes. These
services and facilities not only help in improving the
learning environment in an educational institute but
also boost the morale of students thereby enhancing
the brand image of the institute. In India, the private
un-aided technical institutes do not receive any direct
financial support from the government for their day to
day working. Considering the limited resources at
their disposal, the management of the un-aided
technical educational institutes may find it difficult to
upgrade all services and facilities simultaneously. It is
therefore necessary to shortlist services and facilities
that need immediate attention and determine the
proportion in which the available budget should be
utilized for these services and facilities.
